It is imperative that preachers of today learn how to declare the spiritual law of God; for, until we learn how to wound consciences, we shall have no wounds to bind with Gospel bandages.
Those that will not come up to the terms of the gospel need be no more miserable than to be left open to the law, and to let that have its course against them.
We do not really break the laws of God, we break ourselves against them. We do not break the law of gravitation by jumping from a skyscraper, we break our necks. Franklin said, "He who spits against the wind spits in his own face."
To say "It is only a man-made law" is to miss the point. Only when civil laws are at variance with the laws of God are they strictly man-made.
Law tells me how crooked I am; grace comes along and straightens me out.
lf law is, in fact, some form of legislated morality. The question is whose morality will dominate.
Just as love makes law enjoyable, law makes love practical.
Willpower has no defense against the careless word, the unguarded moment. The will has the same deficiency as the law -- it can deal only in externals.
All roads lead to the judgment seat of Christ.
