There are two equal and opposite errors into which our race can fall aboutthe devils. One is to disbelieve in their existence. The other is to believe,and to feel an excessive and unhealthy interest in them. They themselves are
equally pleased by both errors, and hail a materialist or magician with the same delight.
When a Christian shuns fellowship with other Christians, the devil smiles. When he stops studying the Bible, the devil laughs. When he stops praying, the devil shouts for joy.
We are evidently no friends of Satan. Like the kings of this world, he wars not against his own subjects. The very fact that he assaults us should fill our minds with hope.
In contemporary society our Adversary majors in three things: noise, hurry, and crowds.
