At the job I hate before this one, back when I was in Santa Barbara, we got a preview of Vista. I thought it was a blatant rip off of OS X and surprisingly, some of the Linux desktops.

All and all, no thanks. I’ll stick to my Macs and my Linux boxes. Microsoft has yet to do anything impressive enough to make me want to switch back.

I’ve never tried Linux… is it preferable to OS X for the mildly proficient computer user (somewhere between home user and IT professional).

For the mildly proficient computer user, you still might want someone to configure it for you, unless you’re a patient person who doesn’t mind reading manuals. Once you get it going, it’s da bomb. The thing is, if you’re running OS X, you’re running its cousin anyways (BSD). BSD and Linux borrow (steal) a lot from each other. I’ve actually compiled Linux programs on the Mac, like The GIMP for instance.

I like having both because Linux has more GUI choices. OS X is nice and all, but you only really have one GUI. I’ve had my GUI artwork actually make it to a Linux distribution disk before.

    Sweeeet. You da bomb!
