Art Review | Reviews: Sam Salisbury at Alison Jacques Gallery, London
Reviewed by Eliza Williams
Salisbury combines imagery from a range of sources, from his own photographs and films as well as shots from mass media, to create works where characters pass one another unseen across a canvas and women loom, both menacingly and seductively, out of night skies. His works are deliberately stylised, encouraging viewers to ponder on the narratives and tensions within the paintings, and the relationship between the sexes…

Bo,
Your son’s talent is amazing!! I viewed your links earlier today after you commented!! Extraordinarily Blessed!!
Way to go SAM!!! (AWESOME)
I am sure you are very proud. My daughter left her studies to view as well with me. Thank you for sharing with us… (smiling) perhaps MORE in the near future?
Have a great weekend! I still need to dig back to see if it was 1989 or 1990 for me at the MMOA.
Your friend,
Suzie

Suzie:
Thanks for stopping by… Sam’s success is fun for us…
I love museums: especially the one that have some unexpected treasures… we were just at the University of North Carolina and dropped into their arts center where they had an Andy Warhol and a Roy Lichtenstein. At the visitor’s center there was a Rembrandt!
Years ago, when Sam was at the Munson-Williams-Proctor Institute, we visited their small museum and they had a big, long Jackson Pollack. That was the first time I’d seen anything by him in person… I think that’s the only way to enjoy something he’s done.
Anyhoo… take care.
Bo

Looks like a trip to Barnes and Noodle is in order. I’ll definitely have to check out that magazine. Very cool. Congrads to Sam.
Fav picture from the Alison Jacques gallery is 002.jpg. Love the coloring.
I love looking at artwork. We’re starting to collect local art. Our walls will be covered with local artwork, with each room having a consistent theme. There are a lot of good artists in the Chico area, which is rated in the top ten for towns under 100k people for art.
How far is the Nevada City area from Chico? I haven’t been in that area in years.

Bo, I still think Denise beat Sam with a honey baked ham or something when he was little.
His stuff is so beautiful, though, I’m sort of glad she lost it.

Zombie–
I’d say Nevada City is about an hour and 45 minutes from Chico.
Maybe an hour and a half if you don’t get stuck behind a slow poke.

Sadie - Cool, not too far then.
Bo, Sadie, and everyone else - let’s definitely get together this upcoming spring. Would love to meet you all in person.

Since Sadie and I are taking over Bo’s blog, I will answer for him, YES! We’ll start plans for the Blogfest to be in Spring. Late April or early May. It’s beautiful up here then.

ZS The Mrs. and I used to spend quite a bit of time in Chico… had some good friends down thataway.
One of our goals is to have only original art in the house. A good place to start is with the kids and I’ll bet Zombieslayer Jr. would be a good source.
We’ll have to have a barbecue in the Spring. Ribs? Brisket? Lots of folks like chicken, but…
Michele… thanks for speaking up for me and taking over. While you’re at it, perhaps you could take my place at work for a couple of weeks. I’m buried.

Hello Bo:
Thx for leaving a comment on my blog. How utterly shameful (topic matter of the sixteen kids arhggh!) Anyway, your blog is interesting and your son’s art is quite beautiful and well…unique. I appreciate uniqueness and think your son will go quite far. Tell him to keep it up and obviously you and the wife must be good parents for fostering and supporting his talent. Good for you:) Feel free to visit again, as I will you:)
