He seemed taller than in the movies, but the most memorable thing was that his hair was redder than I thought. I first became a John Wayne fan in <I>The Quiet Man</I> and I now also enjoy many of his other films. I don't hate him, but his war movies are cheesy. He never really acts like someone in the middle of a real battle. But, I do like him, because I feel like I'd be a commie or something if I didn't. It would be like hating your Grandpa. Plus, didn't he like Mexicans a lot? He's in with me. You've whet my appetite before describing "The Searchers", and this blog did it again. I must see it. I remember too when it was vogue to make fun of John Wayne. They did that in my generation as well. However, Wayne is cool in my book, even if he did make his share of stinkers (what good actor has never had a stinker?).
